Why are Americans obsessessed with the "american-ness" that was defined in the 1700s instead of ...?

Things are not so different now than they were back in the 1700's. Only we have more toys and bigger guns. The Bible states that everything that happens has happened before. There is nothing new under the sun. If we give up our rights to bear arms the government will only ask us to give up more and more of our freedoms. The next thing that is already on the agenda is what you should eat, it is gonna Suck if they outlaw chocolate.
